Podcast Episode No. 1: Turning Carbon into Gold

For the first episode of the Songs for the Classroom Podcast, I introduce the song "Turning Carbon into Gold" which comes from the educational musical of the same name.  I wrote this song in 2009 and used it as part of a short musical for a science week at St. George's School in Neuchatel.  The students performed it several times (they were, admittedly, mildly forced) and received quite a positive reaction from the audience.  I had the pleasure of working with a very fine art specialist who loved working on sets.  The end of the song has a sort of "dramatic" rising music which worked ideal with a big sun (like a smiling smiley) rising upwards to the surprise of all.  This represented the clean, renewable energy focus of the production.

Turning Carbon into Gold works well in a cross-curricular environment.  In this case, science was the other focus (remember, the focus was a science week).

Please subscribe to the podcast at iTunes and feel free to download and use the supplementary materials which you can access at the Magic Bubble Music website.  The materials include the text sheet and vocal-guitar sheet music (pdf) as well as the demo vocal version and instrumental version (mp3) for rehearsal / performance purposes.

Should you use the materials, kindly send me a note and let me know how the lesson went.  Contribute to this blog or send me a note at magicbubblemusic@gmail.com.
